This medical procedure animation was done using Zaxwerks Proanimator, and After Effects. After some medical text book research, I did some sketches to work out the placement of the internal anatomy and rendered them in 3d. Without showing too much detail, I kept the various parts simple and smooth. For a potential patient, the look is a little more pleasing to the eye than an all out autopsy style rendering.
The medical animation shows the flexor retinaculum or the carpal ligament getting opened to relieve the pressure it causes on the median nerve. This is generally a repetitive use injury but can be caused by other issues such as diabetes.
